HOLDERS DEFEATED ,

EXCITING FINAL MATCH P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. In a thrilling match, the result of which depended on the Doubles between the top pairs, Wellington beat Huft Valley, the holders, for the Nunneley Casket by seven rubbers to five. The scores were 3-all after the first day. Only two sets were completed on Saturday, rain then causing play to be abandoned. Conditions were ideal to-day, when the match was concluded. Wellington led by 6 rubbers to 5 when the final Doubles match was played. Had Hutt Valley won this it would have retained the trophy, having an advanatge in setsi Wellington recovered from I—4 to win the first set, but lost the second set after leading 5—2. In the final set Wellington raced away into a s—l lead. Amid excitement, Hutt Valley drew up to 4—5, but lost the next game and the match.

Results (Hutt Valley names first):— Singles: Mrs Graham beat Mrs Painter, 6—l, B—6; Mrs Robb beat Mrs McKay, 6—3, 6—2; Miss McNeill lost to Mrs Green, 2—6, 6—4, 4—6; Miss Dudding lost to Miss Fleming, 2—6, 2—6; Mrs Graham lost to Mrs McKay, s—-7, 6—2, 3—6; Mrs Robb beat Mrs Painter, 6—2, 6—4; Miss McNeill lost to Miss Fleming, 5—7, 6—4, 4—6; Miss Dudding lost to Mrs Green, B—6, 7—9, 4—6.
