AFRIKA KORPS COMMANDER N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 28. Wearing a workman’s black cloth cap and a raincoat over civilian clothes, General von Thoma, who commanded the . Afrika Korps at the Battle of Alamein, was one of a number of senior German officers who embarked this week to return to Germany. Von Thoma. was captured on November 3, 1942, after his tank had been disabled by artillery fire during the German retreat after Alamein. He has been repatriated, for health reasons.
