INSUFFICIENT TIME
COMMEMORATIVE STAMP ROYAL WEDDING ISSUE IN BRITAIN N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 28. When the Assistant Postmaster-gene-ral, Mr C. R. Hobson, informed the House of Commons that there had not been time between the announcement of the royal engagement and the wedding to design and issue special commemorative postage stamps in Britain, Dr S. Segal (Labour, Preston) asked why it was that dominions thousands of miles away from the scene of the celebration had time to design and distribute a special stamp issue. Mr Hobson said the position of the dominions and Britain was not comparable in this matter as the numbers of stamps required were so different. A new issue in Britain would require 350,000.000 stamps and there had not been the time to design and print this number. » When Lieutenant T. C. SkeffingtonLodge (Labour, Bedford) said there was still time to take action, Mr Hobson said he would go into the matter.
