HOSPITAL FIRE
REPORT FROM SEACLIFF Reports of a fire at Seacliff Mental Hospital on Thursday night were neither confirmed nor denied when inquiries were made by the Daily Times last night. It is understood that a fire broke out about 8.30 p.m., but was subdued and finally put out by the volunteer fire brigade attached to the institution. No one was injured, but it is reported that damage was not slight, and a tragedy might have occurred if immediate action had not been taken. Efforts to communicate with the medical superintendent, Dr Brown, for a statement were unavailing last night. Dr D. G. McLachlan said that there was no official statement to be made.
