STAGGERED HOLIDAYS
REQUEST BY WELLINGTON CLERKS CHRISTMAS TIME UNSUITABLE p.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. The staggering of holidays usually taken at Christmas time is being sought by the Wellington Clerical Workers’ Union. The union at its quarterly general meeting, passed a resolution requesting the New Zealand Clerical Employees’ Association to make representations to the New Zealand Federation of Labour with the object of checking the present tendency for employers to compel stalls, by closing down their places of business, to take holidays at Christmas. The union urged that arrangements be made whereby the holiday period should be staggered so that all workers should be able to take their holidays at a time when reasonable travel and hotel facilities were available.
