COMPETITION WINNERS

WOMEN WRITERS AND ARTISTS’ SOCIETY P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. The winners of the competitions conducted by the New Zealand Women Writers and Artists’ Society were presented with their trophies at the, society's annual party ak follows:—Mrs L. V. Phillips’s oup for children’s story: Miss Helen Clyde (Wellington). Shakespeare Cup for musical setting for original verse: Received by Mrs H. Edwards on behalf of winner, Mrs Douglas Blair (Gisborne). Donovan Cup for short story: Mrs L. Mantell (Petone) 1, Miss Ivy Smytheman (Auckland) 2, Mrs R. Atkinson (Taranaki) 2. Donovan Cup for verse: Mrs J. B. Mackay (Wellington) 1, Miss L. G. Crisp (Wellington) 2, Miss Jean Mather (Wellington) 3. The judge, Mr L. J. Cronm, said the entries in the short story competition were of a high standard. There were excellent entries in the verse competition, though the winning poem stood out for general excellence. The winners of Mrs G. G. Macquarrie’s special prize for general good work in the society’s competitions were D. Black (Taupiri) and Mrs R. Atkinson (Taranaki).
