POOLING OF BUYERS
Farmers Concerned At the meeting of the North Otago Federated Farmers yesterday a letter was received from Mr R. K. Ireland stating that he had been informed on good authority that the New Zealand woollen mills intended to pool their buying and to leave only one buyer to operate for all. Mr Ireland stated that he understood that this was being done in order to keep down the price of wool for New Zealand goods. The New Zealand Wcol Board advised that the subject would be placed befor.e the board at its next meeting. The secretary of the board assured the branch that the whole position was being kept in view, and the position of wool-growers would be protected. After a discussion, a recommendation was approved “ that the Dominion secretary take immediate steps to ascertain the facts concerning the statement that the New Zealand woollen mills were employing a joint buyer at wcol sales, and that if the statement was in any way justified, that the executive requests the strongest possible protest be made to all parties concerned.”
