Howe is engaged in three races at Riccarton to-morrow, and Blue Hussar, Sedgemere, King’s Ransom and Indian Dawn in two. The record for the New Zealand Oaks Is jointly held by Korokio and Caithness at 2min 33 2-ssec. Doubtful Starters If the track at Riccarton is hard tomorrow, Finigin may not be started in the Pioneer Handicap. Another doubtful starter is Golden Amber. Robin Leigh Withdrawn Robin Leigh was withdrawn from the Sheriff Handicap at the Avondale races at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Sheba is not an acceptor for the Nihotupu Handicap. Substantial Lift Royal Victor finished third in the Cup with 7.8, and on paper does not appear to have the best of the deal in having been raised 91b in the Metropolitan. At Walrio Effervescence showed improvement when she ran third in the Novice Handicap at Wairio and that is likely to bring her into favour if she is started at the Tapanui meeting, A Strong Finisher Voltaic raceß best when he has to come from behind, and he is capable of putting in a very strong finish. If the race is run to suit him he will be a hard horse to beat in the Jockey Club Handicap, even with his 9.7. May Improve Palm Bearer was never a possibility in the Cup, but it should be remembered that she won the Great Autumn Handicap with 7.10, and has only 31b more to carry in the Metropolitan,' the distance of which may suit her better. The race in the Cup would probably improve her! Oaks Candidate Lucy Bian, an Oaks candidate, is a bay filly by Lang Bian from Proven, by Solici-tor-General from Lucinda, by Martian from Lady Lucy (New Zealand Cup winner of 1909), by Seaton Delaval -,from Hilda, by Musket from Ouida, by Yattendon. She is trained by J. Waller. Massive Gelding' King’s Ransom, one of the biggest horses in training, has won three of his four races this season, including the Wainui and Watkins Handicaps at Trentham. When he was in hack company he proved he could carry weight by winning with 9.11 and 10.2. In view of his engagement in the Auckland Cup, King’s Ransom’s form to-morrow will be followed with the keenest interest.
