RICCARTON NOTES
HARD AND DRY TRACK Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 27. The weather here continues very dry, and as a result the course at Riccarton is becoming hard. Unless rain falls there may be a few scratchings on Saturday. Red Pickle is mentioned as one horse who would appreciate an easier track, while the two-year-olds, Finigan and Golden Amber, are reported as unlikely starters in the absence of rain. According to this morning's talk Howe is strongly fancied along with Voltaic for the Jockey Club Handicap on Saturday. It is reported that R. J. Mackie has gone home to Wingatui and there seems no definite information about him coming back here for the second day’s racing. W. J. Broughton will ride Blank Cheque in the Seymour Handicap and- probably will be on Excellency in the Oaks. So far he has no engagement in the Otaio Plate.
