PORT CHALMERS
CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE A well-attended meeting of the Port Chalmers Centennial Committee was’held in the Council Chamber, Mr H. S. Watson presiding. The Ship Committee reported that arrangements were in hand to produce a sailing ship, barque rigged, that would represent the John Wickliffe for the anniversary date. , Mr A. C. Notman reported that a souvenir of the landing was in the course of preparation. It would contain the relevant historical facts of which the function on March 23 would be symbolic, and would; be suitably illustrated. The plates for the illustrations were already made. The cast fc-r the re-er.actment of the landing had been appointed and informed of their parts, and rehearsals would begin next week. A model or ihe oroposed stage on. which the final part of the function would take place was produced and discussed, and Mr Watson was appointed to arrange for the building of the stage according to the model. It was decided that the boats should land at the north side of the George street pier and follow a route to the stage which would be erected on the actual spot where the original landing was made.
