MALAY SEAMEN IN AUSTRALIA WIDESPREAD INDIGNATION AROUSED Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 26. The case of 14 Malay seamen who have been instructed by the Collector of Customs to obtain their steamer tickets and join the Marella for repatriation to Singapore next month is arousing widespread indignation in Australia and the Malay States. The men, who served in the British merchant marine during the war, have married Australian wives, and many have children. The wives and children, numbering 35, Will remain in Australia if the deportation order is carried out.

A public meeting of protest sponsored by the National Council of Women, the Council of Churches, and the Waterside Workers’ Federation will be held in Sydney to-morrow night. A Singapore message says that Malay Sultans have asked for an explanation of the Australian decision to deport the seamen. The GovernorGeneral of the Malayan Union and Singapore, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, has called in the Australian Commissioner for Malaya, Mr Claude Massey, and asked him for information so that he can frame a reply.
