KUOMINTANG LEAD IN CHINESE ELECTIONS

NANKING, Nov. 25,

Although no appreciable results of China’s first democratic elections carried out during the week-end are available, the first results reaching Nanking to-night indicate that the Kuomintang, the present Government Party, has a substantial lead over the other parties—the Social Democrats and the Young China Party. In the more reactionary areas around Peiping despatches indicate that the Independents are leading. Dr Hu Shih, former Ambassador to the United States, and sitting member of the present National Assembly, lost his seat to an Independent. From Amoy reports indicate that Kuomintang candidates received overwhelming majorities, gaining more than 80 per cent, of the votes polled. Meanwhile, Chiang Yun Tien, spokesman for the Democratic Party, to-day charged that Government-controlled election boards in 10 districts failed to includue the names of party candidates on the. voting lists. A formal protest has been lodged with the Kuomintang.
