Mr Justice Kennedy, who presided at the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court at Invercargill, returned to Dunedin yesterday. Mr W. A. Procter, district manager of the Government Life Insurance Office in Dunedin, has been appointed manager at Auckland. He will be succeeded by Mr S. R. W. Tovey, at present district manager at Palmerston North. Mr L. R. Lopdell, vice-president for Otago and Southland of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association, is attending a meeting of the Dominion Executive Council of the association in Wellington. The following were successful in recent police examinations: Sergeant A. S. Chiles (qualified for the rank of senior-ser-geant); Detectives A. J. Lahmert and C, G. Evans, and. Constable B. R. Alty (qualified for the rank of sergeant). The Mayor, Mr Cameron, and Cr E. J. Smith were appointed by the Dunedin City Council yesterday to represent it at the fifth annual conference of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association at Invercargill next Wednesday. Cr C. J Hayward was appointed*as the representative of the council on the Immigration Welfare Committee.
