PIG SECTION AWARDS PIG SECTION For a metropolitan show, the pig section was poorly supported, only one exhibitor coming forward in the Tamworths, while the Large Blacks, Large Whites and Berkshires were completely neglected. Competition was better among porkers and baconers. The lone exhibitor of Tamworths, G. Masters (Hillend), had some good types on . show, but they were not done up to show condition. This may, of course, have been due to the unfortunate fact that the exhibitor is in hospital at present and thiis unable to give the extra attention to his exhibits. The sow to which the T. and P. Cup was awarded was small, but definitely a good type of Tamworth. It was suggested by the judge (Mr W. Simpson, Southbridge) that pig production and display in the province might be improved by an increase in the awards. The baconers showed good carcasses, the winner being a fine type for export, while the second and third placed pigs were more the type for the local market. The porkers were of the right type. The results were:— Tamworths Boar, under 8 months. One entry—G.' Masters and Sons (Hillend) 1. Sow, 8 months ancLjunder 14 months, with or without Jitter;. Two entries—G. Masters and Sons 1 and 2. Sow, under 8 months. One entry—G. Masters and Sons 1. . Champion and reserve champion sows— G. Masters and Sons. Bacon pig, any- age, breed or cross, most suitable for the export trade. Fort Roche prize—W. P. Dyer. , SHEEP DOG SECTION The winning dog in the Driving and Yarding Competition, Mr M. A. Matheson’s Bonnie, scored 99 points out of a possible 100—an excellent performance. A time limit of 10 minutes was allowed, and the winning dog drove and yarded the three halfbred sheep in 2mln lOsec. There was little margin between the second competitor (whose time was Bmin) and the third. Commenting on the wining performance, the judge, Mr Alistair Coutts, of Palmerston, said that the winning dog would perform well in any championship company. Commands had been followed faithfully, arid the performance was outstanding. Results:— Driving and Yarding. Tvvelve entries— M. A. Matheson’s (Middlemarch) Bonnie 1, A. McK.
