GOVERNMENT’S MOST URGENT TASK

GALLUP POLL IN BRITAIN N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent. Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 25. The latest Gallup Poll result published by the London News Chronicle shows that 41 per cent, of thfe people questioned consider an improvement of the rations and food situation is the most urgent task confronting the British Government. Sixteen per cent, considered housing the most important, and 14 per cent, production. Fifty-two per cent, of all the housewives questioned put food at the head of., their list of urgent problems. After asking this question the poll then asked those interviewed to say what type of Government they considered could best tackle the food problem. Thirty-nine per cent, said Conservative, *34 per cent. Labour and nine per cent. Liberal. The political correspondent of the News Chronicle says there may shortly be a further increase in the points value of goods most in demand making them more difficult to procure, and a possible reduction of the potato ration to two and a-half pounds a week in the spring. Some further cut may also be necessary in the meat ration.
