CONCESSIONS FROM JAPANESE
AUSTRALIAN MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT Rec. 8 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 25. A statutory declaration and other evidence to prove that he did not show his Parliamentary gold pass to the Japanese to gain special treatment while a prisoner of war, have been released by Mr A. H. Blain, a member of the House of Representatives. The action was taken in reply to a statement in the House by Mr D. Mulcahy Labour). Captain S. S. Woods, of South Australia, says in a statutory declaration that he handed Mr Blain’s gold pass to Captain Hoshijima in a Japanese gaol at Sahdakan under pressure. Hoshijima, one of the cruellest and most arrogant of the Japanese, was later hanged at Rabaul for war crimes. Woods said that Sergeant Blain was arrested among others for planning to escape. Hoshijima demanded proof that Blain was a Member of Parliament. Woods picked out Blain's kitbag and emptied it on the floor. Among articles in it were letters addressed to Blain and a gold pass authorising free travel in Australia to a Member of Parliament.
