STRONG OPPOSITION
MORE STRINGENT RATIONING REQUESTED
“ The announcement of extra rations being available at Christmas is most \objectionable. It is a scandalous situation -when we aregexhorted by the Government to aid Britain on one occasion and on the next given extra butter and lamb,” said Mr A. J. H. Jeavons at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association last night. “ Our association has in the past repeatedly asked the Government to impose more stringent rationing to help Britain, and we should express our disapproval of this new move,” continued Mr Jeavons. “This should be an austerity Christmas,” he added. , On the motion of Mr D. L. Wood, the executive expressed strong opposition to the granting of extra rations at Christmas, and decided to make a request to the Government through the Dominion Council of the association for the imposition of more stringent rationing.
