Mr and Mrs Donald Reid have returned home from a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs R. C. B. Greenslade returned on Sunday from the North Island. Miss Anne Salmon has returned from a visit to Great Britain Mr and Mrs Colin Tapley will return early in the week to Wanaka. Mrs Costello, Ranfurly, has returned from a holiday in Hawke’s Bay. Mrs Helen Harris has returned from a holiday with her sister. Mrs Riley, of Timaru Creek, Hawea. Mrs C. W. S. Jerram, Hawthorne avenue, is spending a holiday in the North Island. Mrs H. Castle, of Sydney, is visiting her mother Mrs E. I. Halsted. High street. Miss Helen Borg is spending a few days with Mrs Parletich at Hakataramea, before leaving for her home in Auckland Mr and Mrs Richard Hudson and Mrs Dora Smeaton will return to-morrow from a holiday in Hanmer and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Allan Speight, Redcliff Station, Southland, who have been on holiday in the north, passed through Dunedin yesterday on their return journey. Mr and Mrs Stanley Wakefield left Dunedin on Friday for Central Otago, where they will be the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Peterson, of Cromwell, prior to a tour of the Lakes District. Dr Alice Bush is to be the guest of Professor and Mrs Lawson, 33' Pitt street, for 10 days before her departure, with small son, for England, where she intends to study medicine and children’s diseases. Mr and Mrs J. Sutherland Ross will invite the captain and officers of H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona and members of the Navy League Executive to a 5 o’clock party to-day at their home. “ Broomhill,” Roslyn.
The monthly meeting of the Post and Telegraph Women’s League, held in the cafeteria at the Post Office, was presided over by Mrs D. Hannah. At the conclusion of business members were entertained. Winners of the flower competition for the month were: Mesdames Warren 1, Harris 2. Hannah 3. A successful evening rounded off the activities for the year of the Bridge Circle of the Otago Women's Club. The .chairwoman, Mrs G. F. McKellar, welcomed 92 members and guests, and Mrs Wakefield Holmes, vice-president, in the absence of the president, Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald, presented the “ pairs ’’ trophy to Mrs W. A. Saunders and Mrs F. Stuckey. Mrs F. W. Parker, Mrs W. R. Sinclair, Mrs S. B. Knox, and Mrs C. Shand gained second and third prizes. A special feature of the evening was the giving of flowers and congratulations to Miss Holford, a valued member of the circle, on attaining her eightieth birthday, A conference of chairwomen and secretaries of the Mothers’ Club of the Plunket Society was recently held in Mrs Davenport’s home in Elgin road. There were present representatives from Mornington, Maori Hill-Roslyn, Port Chalmers, St. Kilda, and Central brandies. Mrs Davenport was appointed chairwoman and Mrs Warburton secretary. Helpful suggestions were made for the efficient functioning of the clubs, and a combined group meeting has been arranged for next April. Mrs W. Keith Cameron, president of the National Council of Women, addressed those present on the closing of maternity hospitals and the importance of adhering to the “ open system ” in those hospitals.
