NO “HOMIES” WANTED
Sir, —I was astonished to see in Thursday’s issue, “No. Homies wanted” in the situations vacant volumn. Is it any wonder that the English people return to their own country when they are insulted by the name, “Homie,” “ foreign invasion,” etc., etc. “ Invasion ” could be aptly applied to those who have gone from here on a visit to England at a time like this, when food is so scarce over there but the English welcome them and meagre rations, and great hospitality is given them. New Zealanders have taken always the best positions in England without a word of comment from anyone, and, being New Zealanders, they usually get preference. There has been much scurrilous talk about Mr Clough returning to England, but he certainly had cause for saying what he did. There is too much bitterness between the two peoples, and It is actually called ” joining in the fashion of running England down.” I think the English people should be warned of the unfriendliness towards them before they leave England. New Zealanders over in England < boost up this country and the charming people to such a ridiculous and untruthful degree, and visitors get a shock when they come and also when they pick up the daily newspapers and read the letters running down the English. I suggest that the advertisement, “ No Homies,” be inserted in all the English papers. Then they will know what to expect before or if they arrive.—l am, etc Also a Homie.
