Mr Patrick Tierney, aged 68, of Madras street, Christchurch, travelled to Newcastle to meet his brother, Thomas, aged 62. They last met when Patrick was living in Birmingham, England, and Thomas was on long service leave from the Indian Army. The passeneers and crew of the steamer Port Hobart, by which Patrick came to Australia, knew he was looking for his brother, and a cheer went up when the brothers recognised each other. '
