COUNCIL OF SPORT

MR C. J. L. WHITE PRESIDENT

’ At the meeting of the Executive Committtee of the Otago Council of Sport last evening Mr C. J. L. White was unanimously elected president for the ensuing year. Several matters of general interest to sports bodies in Otago were discussed, and Mr F. L. C. Scrivener reported on the progress of the sports floats in the Cavalcade of Progress during the centennial celebrations. The matter of grants to sports bodies made by the physical welfare branch was raised, and a Recess Committee was appointed to investigate any applications for grants and to make recommendations upon them to the physical welfare branch.

Mr G. Wright moved that a special meeting of all delegates from sports bodies affiliated to the Council of Sport be held on December 10 to discuss the future activities of the council. This was seconded by Mrs Columbus and carried.

Attention was drawn to the practice of unauthorised cricket teams playing Sunday matches on wickets for which rent was paid by clubs to the City Council. It was decided to ask the clubs concerned to bring the matter before the general meeting on December 10.
