RICCARTON TRIALS
SOME INTERESTING GALLOPS BEAU LE HAVRE LOOKING WELL Special to the Dally Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 20. The conditions were pleasant for the final work at Riccarton this morning. Most of the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper and there were some interesting trials. Welcome Guest and Royal Tan led Signal Officer and Nightchild from the mile and aquarter post. There was no change for tne first half-mile. Signal Officer took charge on reaching the straight but Welcome Guest and Royal Tan challenged. Welcome Guest beating Signal Officer by half a length, with Royal Tan a length away, while Nightchild was well in the rear. The last mile was run in 1 lmin 45 4-ssec and last half-mile in 51sec. Palm Bearer and Falconbridge broke away at the mile and a-quarter mark. Authentic and Rebel March joining in near the mile post and Zorro at the seven-furlong post. Palm Bearer was timed to run from the mile to the halfmile in 51 2-ssec and to complete the mile in lmin 44 3-ssec, but Authentic beat her home by half a length, Zorro being close up, Falconbridge two lengths back and Rebel March last. Excellency went about a mile and a-half by herself, the last mile in ..jlmin 44 l-ssec. Howe and Salmon Spear ran the best mile in lmin 43 2-ssec. Magnaform was sore after his work. Aganev and Pageantry registered lmin 45 2-ssec, equalled by Double Cross, Ballochbuie and Revolte, while Lady Welbeck was much too good for Miss Medley in lmin 45 3-sscc, Glen Cona beating Invest in similar time. Double Arrow shaded Eriskay in lmin 46 2-ssec, while Gay Stroller was a length in front of Merry Robin in lmin 47 4-ssec, the last half in 51 2-ssec. Artful Maid took lmin 47 3-ssec alone. Indian Dawn outclassed Beechwood over seven furlongs in lmin 29 l-ssec, the first three in 37 3-ssec Beau Le Havre gave a start to Blue Hussar and drew out in the straight to beat him by eight lengths in lmin 30 3-ssec, the last four in 52sec. Beau Le Havre looks well bfit he has not done any outstanding -work since he came here. Spare Part and Fort Silver took lmin 31 2-ssec. Blue Trout dashed over five furlongs in lmin lsec, the last half-mile in 49sec. She drew right away to beat Citation by five lengths. Flying Orders and Wantwood also did lmin lsec, the last half-mile in 48 l-ssec. Flying Orders was easing up at the finish. Magical took lmin 2 3-ssec but he was going very easily at the finish. Castlebrae was a neck in front of Card Money over a half-mile in 49 2-ssec. Fine Night followed in 49 3-ssec and John Gay in 50sec. Maka Maka beat Ronald McDonald in 49 4-ssec. Celtic Chief took 50 l-ssec. Desert Fox beat Bronstar easily in 50 2-ssec, which Chaffinch and Avignon equalled. Balkis and Metif took 50 4-ssec, Skipping and Sky High following in similar time Peridot and Blue Print beat Isle Jest in 50 2-ssec. Catterick Bridge and Longsword were given pace work Wide Range went, out to work on the plough. Royal Victor, Rosswood and Libestraum took lmin 48 4-ssec for the mile. Kartikeya was much too good for Detract whom he beat by eight lengths in lmin 48sec. Rahme ran six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, Citril taking lmin 19 2-ssee, while Lorna Leigh and Detain did five furlongs in lmin 5 3-ssec. Altruist was to have galloped with Indian Dawn and Beechwood but lost his rider soon after the start. Count Minerva was scratched for the Derby this morning and also Stagestruck for the Stewards’ Handicap. Riding Engagements The following riding engagements have been made for Saturday:—W. J.
