OFFICIAL INQUIRY
A SPECIAL COMMISSION - Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The intention of the Government to arrange for a commission to make a full investigation into the whole of the circumstances of the unfortunate tragedy in Christchurch as a result of the fire in Ballantyne's building was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, in the House of Representatives to-day. He said that the, commission would be given all the powers necessary for a complete investigation of the whole matter. The Minister added that the normal provisions of the Fire Brigade’s Act, 1926, which empowered the Christchurch -Fire Board to arrange an investigation by a coroner did not altogether suit the circumstances of this case in view of its magnitude. For this reason the Government had decided to make it the subject of a full investigation by a commission. Further particulars concerning the commission would be announced in the next few days.
