“NOT UNDER CONTROL”
LOOTING BY INDIAN * TRIBESMEN Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 19. Five thousand tribesmen who arrived in Abbottabad on November 15 and were refused entry into Kashmir are prowling about the town, lounging through bazaars, bullying shopkeepers, quarrelling among themselves and firing shots every few minutes, says the Abbottabad correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The police force is inadequate to deal with the tribesmen and the authorities fear the political conquences of using the army. Nevertheless, a brigade is standing by and reinforcements are en route from Rawalpindi. ■ The tribesmen, finding no Hindu property left after the riots last March, began looting Moslem houses. The Moslem deputy commissioner told the correspondent: “The situation is not under control.”
