Theocritus Among Prospects

TRENTHAM FORM RECALLED

Among the Stewards’ Handicap candidates who have entered discussions within the past day or two is Theocritus, a five-year-old gelding by Theio from Odavarb. Last season he was saddled up for no fewer than 22 races and his record was three wins, two seconds, and two thirds.

The best performance recorded by Theocritus was- in the Stewards’ Handicap at the Trentham meeting in July, when, ridden by W. J. Broughton, he was made favourite on each machine and beat a big field in lmin 14Asec on soft going with 9st 61b on his back.

The Theio galloper has been sparingly raced this season but he proved that he is in form by winning the McDonald Memorial Handicap at the recent Levin meeting in the smart time of lmin 13sec.

With Bst 111 b, Theocritus is up among the good ones in the Stewards’ but he is one of those who will appeal to the public as a possible place-getter. He is trained at Marton by W. J. McDowell.
