PERSONAL FITTING WON'T COST A PENNY EXTRA ... AND IT'S A WISE WOMAN WHO REALISES THAT HER CLOTHES ARE ONLY AS SMART AS THE FIGURE 'NEATH THOSE CLOTHES. ARTHUR BARNETT LTD DUNEDIN. HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION: TRUTH IN ADVERTISING TUBERCULOSIS IS AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE jr* m m For years responsible authorities have been concerned about the incidence of tuberculosis amongst nurses. To protect nurses and patients adequate facilities must be provided in all Hospitals. Here are extracts from a report sent to the present Hospital Board by the Superintendent of the Public Hospital showing the conditions that existed at the Wakari Sanatorium after years of Blue Ticket control, and almost ten years of Mrs Ross's chairmanship of the Samtorium Committee. RE THE DISPOSAL OF SPUTUM: " I wish to report the unsatisfactory facilities available for the cleansing and sterilising of sputum mugs. The room used is very small and is also used for bedpans, wash basins, and tooth mugs.. After the mugs are collected, the tray containing them is put on the bench, which is used for other purposes as well." RE STERILISER AT MALE BLOCK: This is on y a Methven copper, and the only way of empyting it is by boiling the water out. This is not only inconvenient for the staff, but there is also a great danger of scalding. This copper is used for the sterilising of sputum mugs, and being the only steriliser in the male block, it is necessary to carry all bedpans, wash bowls, and tooth mugs to the women's end for boiling. This was bad enough, but the facilities at the women's end were also inadequate. WOMEN S END: In the women s end there is one steriliser, which is used to boil bedpans, wash basins, and tooth mugs from both ends of the block." STERILISING OF BOWLS AND INSTRUMENTS: " The only facility availably for sterilising bowls and instruments for treatments is a fish kettle, which is boiled on the gas stove in the kitchen." Improvements have now been effected and adequate clinic room and sterilising equipment is now available. All of the Board’s institutions have been similarly improved during the last three years, but much remains to be done. For continued Hospital Progress for both Nurses and Patients— VOTE LABOUR! Just compare ?ersil whiteness with the whiteness you get from the best of ordinary vashers! The difference will amaze you. The reason is that Persil’s rods are charged with oxygen —so that they’re extra active, extra deansing. Gently they wash ,away every trace of dirt—not some of t. . . not most of it. . . but ALL OF IT. Persil washes whitest jecause it washes cleanest. When you see Persil whiteness you 11 wonder why you were ever satisfied with anything else. \N / I// persil gife Whitest; / / u r P 376 I9Z
