THEIR OWN LAWS
OBSTRUCTIONIST GROUP IN SOLOMONS. MISSION WORK HAMPERED P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. A letter received from Mr Robert C. Vance, a missionary in Malaita, in the Solomons, states that .the Marching Rule (“ Marxian rule ”) movement is hindering the work of missionaries, although after the arrest of some leaders in September the political situation was improving. The movement opposes the work of the Government, collects money and keeps it without giving any explanation to the donors as to its use. It has held illegal courts, fined and sent people to prison. It has made people cultivate gardens without giving them any wages and sometimes made them buy back the produce of their gardens. It has had special guards over people at church work and play, causing many to live in fear. It has prohibited the sale of private copra and forbidden men to go to work op plantations. Some prospective mission trainees in . other , islands seeSned frightened to go to the training school, possibly fearing subsequent persecution.
