FARM MACHINERY
REQUIREMENTS OF INDUSTRY
MINISTER’S ASSURANCE P A WELLINGTON; Nov. 17. Federated Farmers recently wrote to several Cabinet Ministers stating that the import selection policy was causing misgivings among British farm machinery exporters. The Minister of Customs, Mr Nash, has replied stating that federation’s 1 representations are receiving immediate consideration, arid, although it is not possible at present to remove farm machinery from the requirements of import licensing, ’steps are being taken ;to ehsure that the needs of the farming community receive adequate provision. Mr Nash said that the issue to regular importers of licences for the importation of tractors from sterling countries as well as from dollar sources was being arranged immediately, while provision had already been made for imports of other types of farm equipment, “ other than excluded items,” from sterling sources. Details of the estimated requirements of similar equipment from dollar countries were being obtained, and arrangements would joe made for the issue without . delay of any licences which were found to be; necessary.
