HEAVY LIST

TWENTY-FIVE BILLS SESSION NEARING END Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. Twenty-five Bills remain on the list of legislation still to be. dealt with by Parliament this session. Eight of them, including the Emergency Regulations Continuance Bill and the Housing Accommodation Bill, providing for the compulsory letting, of empty houses, have yet to be introduced, the remaining 17 measures being either on the Order Paper or away at select committees. In spite of this formidable programme, the House of Represenatives still has to grapple with, the session is expected to finish next week. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, has already indicated that the House will probably resume on Monday after the week-end adjournment. The committee, stages have yet to be taken on the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill, which is before the Labour Bills Committee, and the Control of Prices Bill. These Bills and the Emergency Regulations Continuance Bill and the Housing Accommodation Bill are the most contentious of the measures the House has to deal with. Many of the Bills are of a washing-up and validating nature, and therefore unlikely to occupy the House very long. When the House resumes to-morrow it will continue consideration of the Bills on the Order Paper. The general trade agrement, arising out of the United Nations Trade and Employment Conference held at Geneva, will be released to-morrow morning, and it is presumed that before the session ends members will wish to discuss the effect of it on the economy of New Zealand. -
