POLLING DAY

VOTING TO-MORROW

PREPARATIONS COMPLETE CLIMAX TO QUIET CAMPAIGN By 8 o’clock to-morrow evening the results of the city mayoral election should he announced, and two hours later it should be known which of the 26 candidates for the City Council will serve Dunedin during the next three years. The returning officer, Mr H. E. Lyorj, and his staff spent a busy day yesterday with their final preparations, so that all should be in readiness when the booths throughout the city are opened at 9 o’clock to-morrow morning. Although the election campaign has not been marked by strenuous electioneering by the contesting parties and few very controversial topics have been raised, a keen, if somewhat detached, interest has been shown by electors in the present election, and a large poll is expected. There are 48.214 electors on the main roll and 4934 on the supplementary roll—a total of 53,148, compared with 44.222 in the 1944 elections, when 31,251 votes were recorded. Early Voting Requested Those eligible to vote are asked'to record their votes early so that a lastminute rush may be avoided and counting may be proceeded with as

soon as possible after the closing cf the booths at 7 p.m. The method of voting is simple, and adequate facilities will be provided at the booths. Electors must first ascertain whether they are on the rolls. If on the rolls, they will be- supplied with voting papers for the . four issues. They should then record their votes by placing an X alongside the candidate or candidates for whom they desire to vote. Papers should be folded twice and placed in the appropriate ballot boxes.
