NORTH-EAST VALLEY'S RECOVERY
Two fine partnerships consolidated North-East Valley’s position in its match against Dunedin at the Gardens. R. Jones and H. Ottway played attractively in a fifth-wicket combination, and a last-wicket stand by D, Scobie, who was unbeaten with 43, and S. Stronach realised 57 runs. The home team’s opening batsman, B Sutcliffe, was caught at fine-leg by G. Tobin off the bowling of J. Rodden after having scored only 5 runs. NorthEast Valley was dismissed for 169 runs, S. T. Jones being the most impressive Dunedin bowler. With the two opening batsmen bowled for 4 runs by S. Stronach, Dunedin batted dourly until half an hour before time, when J. O’Sullivan, who scored 37 not out, opened up play. At stumps Dunedin had lost two wickets for 56 runs. Scores:— North-East Valley First Innings B. Sutcliffe, c Tobin, b Rodclen .. 5 R.
