At Levin last Saturday Beau le Havre paid more for a place than for a win Finished Strongly Neenah came from the clouds to run fourth at Ellerslie last Saturday, and the Foxbridge gelding is apparently returning to form. Cup Weights A comparison between the New Zealand Cup weights and those carried in the principal event at Winton is all in favour of Signal Officer. Salmon Spear will carry 151 b less at Riccarton, Eriskay 211 b less, and Signal Officer 241 b less. Levin Winner’s Lines Tranquil Gold, the winner of the Hokio Hack Handicap at Levin, is a three-year-old filly by Royal Chief from Lady Sincere,! by Honour from Lady McKenna, by Greyspear from Lady Vitoria, by Pilgrim’s Progress from Lady Lilian, by Phaeton from Lady Zetland, by Perkin Warbeck 11. Rider’s Fine Record L. J. Ellis has a fine record in the Harcourt Stakes. He scored his first win on Pink Coat in 1529 and he won again on Croupier in 1931. He scored four successive wins on Sporting Blood in 1934, Kinnoull in 1935, Gallio in 1936, and Royal Chief in 1937. He won again on Royal Chief in 1940, and was on Kindergarten when that horse scored the last of his three successive wins in 1944.
