TROTTING NOTES

By the Sporting Editor November 15 .. Metropolitan T.C. November 22, 29 .. Wellington T.C. Answer to Correspondent “Argument,” Dunedin.—Lawn Derby, the sire of Johnnie Lawn, was got by Robert Derby from Roselawn, and he took a record of lmin 59 2-ssec at Addington in 1938. Jottings The first race at Addington to-day is due to be started at 10.45. Free Fight is on the way to much tighter classes.' Golden Amazon has not yet learned how to carry his speed evenly from barrier rise. Ashburton Cup The Ashburton Cup, to be run on Boxing Day, will have a stake of £I6OO, and will be a 3.43 class race' for trotters. Surprise Winner Hidden Note, the surprise winner of the Dominion Trotting Handicap yesterday, is an aged bay mare by Maxegin from Harvest Note. Change of Quarters A recent addition to J. Young's team at Addington is Acclamation, a particularly promising young trotter by Certissimus from Raclaim. who took a record of 3min > 20 2-ssec at the trotting gait. Acclamation was previously trained at Rakaia by J. Wilson. Consistent' Trotter Laureate will probably have her next race at the Wellington meeting next week. A six-year-old trotter by Lusty Volo from an El Carbine mare, she has tins season recorded two wins and three minor placings in five starts, and she should reach tighter classes. Model Pacer Congo Song is a model pacer and is everything a classic winner should be. His behaviour at the barrier cannot be faulted and he shows rare gameness in his races. Congo Song was got by Gold Bar from Flying Helen, by Flying Prince, who was by Wrack from Queen Cole, by King Cole from Norice. Fine Showing Logan Rey, having his first race for six months, made a fine showing for second in the final event at Addington last Satuiday. He began best, but drifted back a few places during the running. The Grattan Loyal gelding finished very strongly over the final furlong, but was unfortunate in striking an opponent of the calibre of Worthy Gold, who was much too speedy for the opposition.
