SEASONAL WORK
APPEAL TO STUDENTS AND TEACHERS EFFECTIVE AID FOR BRITAIN P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. Students, teachers, and others who have long summer holidays can effectively help Britain and benefit themselves by taking seasonal jobs in primary industries, said the Aid for Britain National Council to-day. Holiday jobs with good pay would be available throughout the country in dairy factories, freezing works, wool stores, and later in harvesting, in tobacco and fruit picking. The greatest need was for young men to spend some weeks in industries in which the seasonal rush of work was now beginning. Accommodation was a serious problem and those wishing to work away from home might have to arrange their own lodgings. “To get the farmers’ extra production quickly on the way to Britain, the processing industries urgently need casual labour between now and the first few months of next year,” stated the council. Details could be arranged through the offices of the Department of Labour.
