WAR GRATUITIES
PAYMENT OF BONUSES REGULATIONS AMENDED P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. An amendment has been made to the War Service Gratuities Emergency Regulations fo provide for the depositing in the War Gratuity Account of the 5 per cent, bonus on the first, second and third anniversaries of the date of entitlement, instead of at March 31, or the next following end of the first, second and third years from the date of entitlement, which is the case at present. This alteration would remove existing anomalies, which have placed some depositors in an unfavourable position compared with others, said the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, to-day. When the existing regulations were first drawn up it was not considered possible, in view of the many accounts involved, to deal with the bonuses other than at March 31 each year, but the situation had now become stabilised and the anomalies had been removed. Provision has been made for the payment of bonuses in accord with the amendment in respect of those gratuity accounts which have already been closed, but which were not closed earlier than the first anniversary of the date of entitlement.
