FIRST CONSIGNMENT
OIL FUEL FOR NEW COMPANY MODERN BRITISH TANKER PA WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. Bringing the first consignment of oil fuel for the British Petroleum Company, the company set up in the Dominion jointly by the New Zealand Government and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, the tanker, British Major, berthed at Aotea Quay to-night. The cargo is for use by locomotives on the railways and is being discharged under a temporary arrangement into naval storage tanks at Waiwarra. . . „ . The British Major is one of the most modern vessels of the British Tanker Company’s fleet. Built last year at Sunderland by W. M. Dooford and Sons, she is a motor vessel of 12,310 tons dead-weight and her cargo on this occasion is oil from the. AngloIranian Company’s wells at Abadan on the Persian Gulf. Some 11,666 tons of oil, equal to 2,800,000 gallons, will be discharged during the tanker’s stay .in port, which is expected to end on Monday.
