ANDERSON’S BAY INLET

RECLAMATION OF WHOLE AREA LABOUR COUNCILLOR’S PROPOSAL “ I suggest that the two local bodies concerned —the Harbour Board and the City Council—could come, together and decide to reclaim the whole of the Anderson’s Bay inlet,” said Mr M, Connelly, M.L.C., who is seking reelection as a Labour Party representative on the. City Council, at Cargill road last night. Mr Connelly said that the are? consisted of 60 acres, and the cost of reclaiming 16} acres was estimated at £89,500. If this estimate were like the estimates for trolley buses the scheme would cost more, than £IOO,OOO. The proposal was to build a wall on each side of the Anderson’s Bay inlet. After that had been done there would be annual recurring expenditure as it would be necessary to scrape the lagoon to keep it clean.

He believed that it would be as cheap to reclaim the whole of the inlet as the 16} acres proposed, and it would provide a very fine playing area.
