HIDE LEVY RATES
AMENDMENTS MADE application next week P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. Prices for ox, cow and yearling hides and for country calfskins have recently increased to such an extent, especially in the case of light-weight cow hides and yearlings, that the Hides Committee felt obliged at a meeting to-day to amend the export levy rates in terms of instructions from .the Economic Stabilisation Commission. . The new rates, which will come into operation on Monday on all hides and calfskins freed for export under the Hides Emergency No. 2, are:—Ox hides, all weights, 13d a pound; cow hides, 401 b and up, 13d; cow hides, under 40lb, 15d; yearlings, all weights, 20d; calfskins, all weights, 35d. As the overseas demand at the moment is for higher grade hides, it is not intended to increase the levy on farmers’ ox, cow and yearling hides. The above rates will not affect the return to the producer as he still has the protection of the minimum floor price published in the press on October 18.
