BRIDGING THE GULF
UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN MISSION SCHEME P.A WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. With the aim of bridging what is referred to by the Rev. Martin Sullivan, chaplain to the Student Christian Movement in Wellington, as “the gulf which seems to exist between the university and the community, 23 students from Victoria University College and the Wellington Teachers Training College will shortly go on a special 10-day mission to Wanganui. The scheme, which also entails proclaiming the message of the movement, of. which all the students are members, has been operated by English universities for some years, but the Rev. Mr Sullivan, who is to be in charge of the party, will be originating the move in New Zealand. The whole mission will be financed by the churches in Wanganui, and the party will be billeted privately. It will arrive on November 22 and the next day, Sunday, some of its members will preach in the Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. The party will conduct special services each week night and will send speakers to the Wanganui Rotary Club. Secondary schools will be visited, and pupils who hope to continue their studies at the University College will be met. All youth groups. Bible classes and clubs have a place in the programme. The students, both men and women, are *a representative group. . Mr Sullivan stressed the unofficial nature of the visit. It had not been engineered by the university authorities, he said, but had been his own idea entirelv. He hoped the Studem Christian Movement groups in other colleges would follow the example.
