RACE TRIALS TO-DAY

RICCARTON TRACK WORK LEXIA IN GOOD ORDER Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 11. Conditions were very pleasant for the work at Riccarton this morning. The trial grass track and the plough were open, but there was very little galloping, most of the trainers being content with easy tasks, in preparation for the race trials that have been arranged for to-morrow. Some of tile two-year-olds did smart three furlong sprints on the plough, Robin Redbreast and Trident registering 34 4-ssec, Magical 35 3-ssec, and Musselman 3Gsec. Altruist ran half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Artful Maid going easily in 52see, while Celtic Chief was easing up in 52 2-ssec. Lexia was half a length in front of General Argosy at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec. Mr J. M. Samson's pair are very well. C. Stokes will ride them on the first day. Lexia in the Stewards’ Handicap and General Argosy in the Derby. Zorro went a mile, but was only timed from the seven-furlong post, doing the first three in 37sec and seven in lmin 27 4-ssec. Palm Bearer and Banshee did pace work on the plough, running home the last three furlongs" in 3G 3-ssec. Ronald McDonald and Maka Maka also ran three furlongs in 36 3-ssec, Coral Arc going easily in 38 2-ssec, and Grand Melee in 39 2-ssec. Double Cross and Deficiency went well over five furlongs In lmin 4sec, while Broie and Morning Watch, an improving pair, were not hurried over six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec. The Derby colt, Kartikeya, took lmin 34sec for seven furlongs, and could have done much better. He is very well. Excellency was a neck in front of Sorry over a mile in' lmin 45 l-ssec, while Pimlico and Revolte went easily in lmin 48 l-ssec. Open Cast went well in a school over four hurdles. Matador, who accompanied him, crashed at the third flight, and was lame in front when he walked away.
