GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUTHERLAND BEATS WOON P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 11. The defeat of the New Zealand representative player, D. L. Woon, at the hands of the Taranaki champion, D. V. Sutherland, was a feature of the first round of the New Zealand amateur golf championships at the Ngamotu links, New Plymouth, to-day. A change in the weather altered conditions considerably. A north wind suddenly increased and in the afternoon was accompanied by heavy showers. The players, however, generally rose to the occasion, and the scoring in several cases was exceptionally good.
