GENERAL MacARTHUR’S VIEW ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS IN JAPAN WASHINGTON, Rec. 9.30 p.m. Nov. 10. Representative Walter Judd a member of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee who has just returned from a tour of Japan and China, said that General MacArthur told him that his greatest worry now was not the success of the occupation of Japan, but the situation in China. Representative Judd said: General MacArthur sees that this programme in Japan cannot succeed and Japan become a self-sustaining, secure and democratic nation unless there is an independent China with whom she can carry on trade. Japan cannot get along without American dollars and soldiers if China is disrupted or under Communist control.”
