RETURN TO SERVICE

STORED SUPER FORTRESSES AMERICAN AIR FORCE DEFENCE PROGRAMME Rec. 9 p.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 10. The Air Force announced to-day that 250 Super Fortresses and bombers were being withdrawn from storage to add to the United States active air defence screen. This is part of tne air defence programme announced several months ago envisaging 55 complete air groups of bombers and fighters, plus 15 skeleton groups. The Air Force now has 32 groups ready and is reconditioning Super Fortresses from storage areas throughout the country. An Air Force spokesman said that a few bomber pilots were being recalled to fiv the Super Fortresses, but the Air Force had enough pilots on active duty already to make a large recall unnecessary.
