Milton Hospitai; Admissions 30, discharges 24. remaining 13 Owaka Hospital: Admissions 15. discharges 18, remaining 12. Kaitangata Hospital: Admissions 6. discharges 5, remaining 3 Correspondence A letter from the South Otago Progress League on the subject of extending the footpath from the county boundary to the Balclutha Hospital for the convenience of pedestrians was received The Director-general of Health, Wellington, notified the Minister’s approval of the board borrowing by way of bank overdraft an amount not exceeding £4OOO The director advised in regard to the hospital treatment of territorials in training that the Army Department had agreed to a payment of 5s a day from the war expenses account in respect of in-patients. This was in addition to the Cs per day payable from the Social Security Fund, and the payment of 11s a day would be accepted by hospital boards in full satisfaction. . „ The director-general advised that a considerable number of British children were expected, and It was proposed to render to foster parents the necessary medical, dental and hospital care for the children free of charge It was desired to know if the board would afford outpatient treatment free to these child ren.-r-The chairman said not a great many children could be expected now till after the British winter.—lt was decided to accede to the department’s request The director-general wrote concerning the proposed maternity block at Milton and enclosed a sketch plan of a singlestorey building #vith accommodation for three single-bed wards and two threebed wards. The plan allowed for possible future enlargement by absorbing the accommodation now provided for the staff when it would be desirable to erect an Independent building for the staff.—lt vyas stated that the board had received a plan from the board’s architect (Mr Mandeno), and that the board had decided for double brick walls while the department favoured wood.—lt was decided that the plan submitted bv Mr Mandeno be approved and forwarded to the department for approval.
