ONIONS AU GRATIN Slice some large onions into a casserole and a layer of breadcrumbs; add pepper and salt to taste, then another layer of onions until casserole is full. Place good-sized dabs of butter on top, cook in oven for about one hour, then remove and cover with grated cheese. Cook again until brown on top. SUNDAY NIGHT DESSERT Ingredients: Juice of one orange, lib of stoned dates (chopped), one package jelly (strawberry flavour), half a cupful of nuts (chopped), a quarter of a cupful sugar, quarter of a teaspoonful salt, one teaspoonful vanilla, two bananas (sliced), a cupful and a-half of boiling water. Add the orange juice to dates and let stand for 30 minutes. Dissolve jelly powder in boiling water, add the sugar and salt, and pour on to the dates. Add sliced bananas and the vanilla. When partly chilled vadd the nuts and pour into mould. Chill until set, then unmould. Cut in slices to serve. Serve with cream and assorted biscuits.
