QUEEN CARNIVAL

AIR FORCE QUEEN An enjoyable- night was spent at Wanaka on Saturday when a community sing and auction were held in aid of the Air Force Queen Funds. The leader. Mr E. 1. Ottrey. assisted bv Mr Aubrey Clarke (accompanist). Misses Dorothy Sligo and Margaret Pratt. Dunedin, and Mr Lea Beath (violinist), of Invercargill, found a very responsive audience, the members oi which not only sang well, but thoroughly entered into the spirit of the evening. NAVY QUEEN ACTIVITIES Paddy’s Market.—The Women’s Navy Queen Committee is organising for Friday next a Paddy’s Market in Burns Hall. It will be open from 10 a.m. There will be cakes, produce, sweets, plant stalls, etc., and at 2 o’clock a jumble sale will be held. Donations for the jumble sale will be welcomed. There will be something for everybody at the Paddy’s Market. Skating Carnival. —Fun on skates will be the order of the evening on Friday night, when a big patriotic night will be held at the Skating Rink An interesting programme has been arranged. Children will be allowed on the floor until 9 o’clock. Friday is the night of the big procession in town and the skating carnival will form part of the activities of that evening. Auction Sale of Furniture.—Donations of furniture for the auction sale are still coming in. but the Navy Committee is still anxious to receive as many donations as possible in order to make the sale a complete success. It will be held at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association Buildings on Friday, October 18. Donations will be collected if a message is left by telephone at the Navy headquarters. Cabaret.—The Women’s Navy Queen Committee is organising a cabaret to be held at the Crawford Lounge on Monday next.
