Marshal ot the Royal Air Force Sir Cyril Newall, who has been appointed Governor-General of New Zealand, as Chief of the Air Staff. Sir Richard Peirse will succeed Sir Charles Portal as Air Officer Commanding the Chief Bomber Command Aii Chief Marsha] Sir Charles Portal has been Air Member for Personnel on the Air Council for about a year He served in the European Wai, gaining the D.S.O and bar and the M.C He commanded the British forces al Aden in 1934-35, was an instructor at the Imperial Defence College in 1936-37 and served as Director of Organisation at the Air Ministry in 1937-38 He is aged 47
