STONING OF DUCKS

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—l notice in the Daily Times that the authorities have been quick off the mark in dealing with the killing of the duck on the Leith, and I feel proud of them. In Queenstown we have a fine show of native game and fish because of the existence of a sanctuary, but it has been common to see ducks dead over the last few years. I suppose the reason is that almost at anytime you can see stone-throwing going on, especially by a full-grown man, who deliberately and viciously pelts these ducks with gravel and stones, yet our authority takes no notice whatever. If this is not cruelty and a bad example to children, I do not know what it is.—l am. etc.. Humane. Queenstown. October 4.
