PRICE INCREASES
UNAUTHORISED BY TRIBUNAL LEATHER FIRM CONVICTED (Per United Preps Association),. AUCKLAND. Oct. 4.' On two ummons charges of selling goods at a price higher than that fixed under the P'ice Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, Ullathorne Hartridge and Co., Ltd.. were fined by Mr-J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court today £2 and costs on one charge, and were ofcdered to pay costs <los),plus solicitor's*fee (£1 Is), on the other Mr V. R. Meredith, who prosecuted, eaid the defendants were leather and grindery merchants, and in April last they sold 99 yards of backing cloth at Is 9Jd a yard instead of Is 4d a yard without the consent of the Price Tribunal. The second case concerned the sale of 123 yards of combined lining at 2s Id a yard instead of Is 6d a yard. Mr Meredith said Ue maximum penalty provided was three months' imprisonment or a fine of £IOO. Defending counsel.- Mr deal, said there was no question of profiteering.
