PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL SERVICE
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Presbyterian Social Service Association was presided over by Mr T. Somerville. A letter was received from the architects enclosing the tenders which had been received for the Kilgour Wing.—lt was agreed that the tender of Messrs R. Mitchell and Sons. Ltd , be accepted. It was arranged that the annual meeting of the association would be held on October 21. The suggested rules and regulations would be presented to the meeting for adoption. A short film depicting portions of the work of the association will be shown at the meeting and a general invitation would be extended to all interested. Children’s Homes
Mr R. L. Fairmaid reported that during the month the children at the Glendining Homes had enjoyed their usual good health, there being no cases of sickness of a serious nature to report. With ideal weather the children had thoroughly enjoyed their term holidays and had now sattled down to the work of the last term of the year. One child
was admitted during the month and none was discharged. The number of children under care at the present time w r as as follows:—Nisbet Cottage 11 girls, 8 boys; Cameron Cottage, 9 girls 9 boys; Somerville Cottage. 13 girls. 5 boys; Glendining Home, 16 schoolboys 6 working boys—a total of 77 children. The staff gave every satisfaction and enjoyed good health. The usual spring work was being carried out on the farm and in the garden. The stock was in good condition and there were ample supplies of milk. Property and buildings were in good repair South Dunedin Extension Work Sister Olive reported that since the last meeting the work had continued much as before. New homes had been added to those visited and new problems had been talked over with the women concerned. The Women’s Circle' met fortnightly, and its meetings were enjoyed by those who attended. Ross Home Committee
The matron’s report for the month showed that there were 20 men and 37 women in residence, of whom five men and six women were in the hospital wards. The general health was fair. Gifts of clothing and jam had been received, while on one occasion afternoon tea had been provided by the North-East Valley Mothers’ Choir. During the month entertainments had been provided by the Knox Church Choir. The North-East Valley Mothers’ Choir and Miss Clifford’s pupiJs had
also given entertainments. Several applications for admission to the home were considered by the committee. Advice was received that Mrs P. W, Curtis had presented* an organ for the use of Ross Heme. Mrs Curtis was warmly thanked for her donation.
